Nacogdoches, Texas — The University of Tulsa volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit but could not close out in the fifth set, losing to the McNeese State Cowgirls 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-21, 12-15) Friday night at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational.
The loss dropped Tulsa to 2-3 overall.
The Golden Hurricane was led by double-doubles from Kayley Cassaday (24 kills and 15 digs), Aysu Dalogullari (13 kills and 18 digs), and Avery Kalsu (26 assists and 25 digs). Bailey Rowe added nine kills and Brayden Hipp produced 38 assists to help the attack.
On the defensive end, Marta Pecalli chipped in 37 digs to go with four blocks from Regan Pendleton. Arianna Mongare added three blocks and 13 digs
"Tough way to lose a match," said Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Wills. "We fought back but didn't the job done. McNeese blocked extremely well, and we didn't respond well enough to win."
Tulsa will wrap up the SFA Invitational against host school Stephen F. Austin tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

SET 2 | Tulsa then lost set two 26-24 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Hurricane fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that had two lead changes and was tied eight times.
SET 3 | Tulsa stayed alive after a win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Hurricane took control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-12. Tulsa ended on a strong note, opening its biggest lead of the stanza, 13 points, to close out the set. The Tulsa offense also got a boost from four service aces.
SET 4 | Tulsa then kept the comeback train rolling, winning the fourth set 25-21 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Hurricane survived an electrifying set to win in a stanza that featured three lead changes and 11 tie scores. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than four points along the way. Of the Hurricane's 25 points, 17 came from kills.
SET 5 | Tulsa looked to complete the full comeback but fell 15-12 in the final set. The Hurricane fell in a roll coaster of a final set that featured four lead changes and was tied five times. Neither team led by more than three points.
