Tulsa Volleyball Travels to Texas for SFA Invitational

Tulsa, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball team will head to Nacogdoches, Texas to participate in the Stephen F. Austin Invitational on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept 3.

The Golden Hurricane will face South Alabama first on Friday at 1 p.m. followed by a showdown with McNeese State at 5 p.m. Tulsa will wrap up the tournament against host school Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Hurricane has played South Alabama only twice, with both games played in Mobile, Ala., on September 3rd and 4th, 1999.

The Jaguars are 2-1 to start the season after losing 3-1 to Ball State and beating William & Mary and Tulsa rival South Florida over opening weekend.

The series between Tulsa and McNeese State of Lake Charles, La., is tied 1-1. The first match was played in September of 1993 in which the Cowgirls won in straight sets. The most recent match was played in the Reynolds Center in 2014, where the Hurricane dominated on both sides of the ball to complete a 3-0 sweep.

The Cowgirls are 0-3 after getting swept by Southern Miss and losing 3-1 to Alabama and UTSA.

The Hurricane has faced Stephen F. Austin nine times in school history, holding a 5-4 advantage over the Lumberjacks. Tulsa will be looking for revenge for last year's 3-1 loss to SFA during the Tulsa Invitational, where the Lumberjacks out-hit the Hurricane .234 to .098.

The Lumberjacks are off to an undefeated 3-0 start after winning 3-1 against DePaul, UC Irvine, and Tulsa rival SMU.
