
Golden Hurricane Drops Road Game at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. –– UCF's offensive explosion was too much for The University of Tulsa men's basketball team as the Golden Hurricane fell 96-52 in front of 6,731 fans in the Addition Financial Arena on Saturday evening.
It was a season-high given up by Tulsa 5-19, 1-12 AAC) in points and 3-pointers as UCF found the net on 17 of its attempts. The 51 points and 11 3-pointers UCF (15-9, 6-6 The American) recorded in the first half were both season highs for a Tulsa opponent in one half.
Bryant Selebangue scored 11 and pulled down 10 rebounds to collect his ninth double-double of the season. Sam Griffin scored 10 and Charles Chukwu set a career high with nine points and five rebounds.
UCF had four finish in double figures, led by Ithiel Horton and Taylor Hendricks with 20 and 18, respectively. Darius Johnson had a 10 point, 13 assist double-double.
In all, Knights assisted on 28 of its 37 field goals. Tulsa did outrebound UCF 34-32 and held a 14-9 advantage on the offensive glass. However, TU turned it over 16 times while the Knights limited themselves to three turnovers, which led to a 22-2 difference in points.
Tulsa's shooting struggles continued Saturday as Tulsa finished the game shooting 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) from the field and 20.8 from 3-point range. The Knights were 37-67 (55.2percent) from the floor and connected on 47.2 percent of its 3-point attempts.
Tulsa began the game in a similar fashion to Wednesday night at Houston, grabbing an early lead on the Knights. UCF opened the game with a triple, which was quickly matched by Sam Griffin. Trailing 8-5, Brandon Betson kickstarted a 10-0 Tulsa run with his first 3-pointer of the evening. Tim Dalger and Griffin both supplied threes to give Tulsa a 16-8 advantage with 14:34 to play in the half.
A 16-2 UCF run turned a 20-14 Tulsa lead into a 30-22 deficit in just under four minutes. Jesaiah McWright knocked down a pull-up jumper to stop the run. UCF grabbed its first double digit lead with a second-chance 3-pointer to go up 38-28 with just under six remaining in the half. The Knights would close the opening frame outscoring Tulsa 13-3 to take a 51-31 lead into the lockers.
After the halftime break, Tulsa struggled to find the basket, going scoreless in the first four minutes before Selebangue connected on a jumper in the lane to cut UCF's lead to 59-33.
Tulsa never got the lead back under 25 as UCF pushed its advantage to 30, 65-35, at the 13:10 mark. The score discrepancy would hover around that mark for a lot of the second half until late. UCF led 81-49 and used a 13-1 run to go up 94-50 with 1:51, which tied the final score for largest lead of the night.
Tulsa will now turn its eyes toward Wednesday and a matchup with the South Florida Bulls in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tipoff for the conference game is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
