No. 55 Tulsa’s Comeback Bid Halted by No. 50 SMU

DALLAS, Texas — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team fought to stay alive but fell 4-1 to No. 50 SMU (11-9) Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
The loss drops the Golden Hurricane to 7-8 on the year.
The doubles point went to SMU as the Mustangs pulled away with 7-5 decisions in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
In singles play, senior Ezequiel Santalla quickly scored for the Hurricane with a 6-0, 6-4 win at Singles No. 5. The Mar Del Plata, Argentina product ended the weekend with three straight wins in singles action.
The fate of the dual match fell into the hands of Kody Pearson (No. 1), Volodymyr Zakharov (No. 4) and Timothy Carlsson Seger (No. 6) after the Mustangs jumped ahead 3-1 with back-to-back wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions.
The three remaining Tulsa players fought for nearly three full sets in their head-to-head matches, but SMU's Adam Neff toppled Pearson 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 position to seal away the dual match at 4-1, leaving positions four and six unfinished.
Tulsa will return home to host No. 35 Tulane (10-6) on Friday, March 24 at 11 a.m. Then, the Hurricane will head to Norman for an in-state battle with No. 41 Oklahoma (8-7) at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 26.
