TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team dominated the Wichita State Shockers (9-13) Friday on the way to a 7-0 sweep at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The win improves the Golden Hurricane's overall record to 8-11. Against Wichita State, Tulsa has now won 18 of the last 20 meetings and 14 of the last 15 at home.

The doubles point went to the Hurricane thanks to a 6-3 victory by senior pair Stefan Hampe and Ezequiel Santalla at the No. 3 position, followed by a 7-5 decision by Timothy Carlsson Seger and Daniel Siddall in the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, freshman Timothy Carlsson Seger kicked off the scoring for TU with a two-set winner over Wichita State's Luck Bracks in the sixth position. After trading scores through the first eight games of the first set, Seger was able to break a 4-4 tie and close out 6-4. In the second set, Seger jumped out to a 3-0 lead and cruised from there to a 6-3 decision for his fourth singles win in his last five head-to-head matches.

Senior Ezequiel Santalla followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Alejandro Jacome at the No. 3 position. Santalla erased two-point deficits in both set wins to improve to 9-6 overall in the dual-match season.

Clinching the dual match victory for Tulsa at 4-0 was junior Volodymyr Zakharov, who added a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 Singles. Zakharov erased a 2-4 deficit in the first set and jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set before coasting to victory.

Electing to play through the rest of the singles matches, Tulsa added another score as No. 28 Kody Pearson closed out a 6-4, 7-6(5) win in the first position over the Shockers' Kristof Minarik. The senior was down 1-4 in the second set before climbing back and forcing a tiebreaker set at 6-6 in which he won 7-5. Pearson moves to 12-4 on the year and 10-4 at Singles No. 1.

In the fifth position, junior Callum Gale prevailed in a three-set battle against Wichita State's Alex Richards. After winning the first set 6-3 and dropping the second set 1-6, Gale soared out to a 5-0 lead in the third before closing out 6-2 to snap his home losing skid.

Wrapping up the 7-0 sweep for the Hurricane was senior Stefan Hampe at the No. 2 spot. After falling 6-1 in the first set, he fought to stay alive in the second set, where the Shockers' Misha Kvantaliani forced a 6-6 tiebreaker set. Both athletes traded scores until Hampe prevailed 7-5 to force set three. Hampe won the third set 6-4 to close out Tulsa's dominant performance on the courts.

Tulsa returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 8, for a home doubleheader with No. 34 Oklahoma State and Creighton (9-4). The OSU match kicks off at 11 a.m., and the Creighton match is slated for 6 p.m.
