No. 56 Men’s Tennis Ends Regular Season in 4-2 Setback to No. 49 UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team fell in a 4-2 decision to the No. 49 UCF Knights (10-11) Sunday at the USTA National Campus. The 56^th-ranked Golden Hurricane ends the regular season 11-12 overall heading to the AAC Championships, beginning on Friday, April 21.

UCF scored the initial advantage in the dual match as the Knights picked up 6-4 wins in the first and second positions of doubles play to go up 1-0 on the Hurricane.

TU's Stefan Hampe retaliated in singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second position. The senior has won four straight and five of his last seven completed matches.

The Knights responded with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at Singles No. 3. After a two-hour weather delay, senior Adham Gaber tied up the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 7-6(7) victory at Singles No. 5, giving him his fourth singles win in a row and ninth win in his last 11 matches.

The scoring would stop for Tulsa as UCF's Bogdan Pavel (7-6(5), 7-6(5)) and Liam Branger (4-6, 6-3, 7-6(0)) would take the first and fourth positions to seal away the dual match 4-2.

The Men's American Athletic Conference Championship will begin at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Friday, April 21, and run through Sunday, April 23. Tournament seeding will be determined by the ITA team rankings set to be released at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18.
