TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa volleyball program added two newcomers to the 2023 Golden Hurricane roster, it was announced today by first-year head coach Lauren Ramatowski.

Hailee Alexander is a freshman defensive specialist/libero from nearby Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School. Tulsa also signed middle blocker Tytiana Johnson, a transfer from Lamar University. Johnson will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Alexander, 5'5", was a four-year letterwinner and three-year varsity starter as a setter at Broken Arrow High School. She produced 659 assists for a 9.8 average per set her senior season, while adding 180 digs in 67 sets played. Alexander was an All-World honorable mention selection by the Tulsa World as a senior and was chosen by the OCA to participate for the Class 6A East squad at the all-state games.

Alexander also played for the Ultimate Performance Volleyball Club on the National/Open team for the last five seasons. She played setter for the first four seasons and defensive specialist/libero last year. In 2021, Alexander helped her club team to a fifth-place national finish in the club division.

"Hailee is a wonderful volleyball player who is extremely versatile. With her ability to set and play back-row she will be a great addition to our team and will provide great ball control for our defense. We love that Hailee is from Tulsa, as we love to support volleyball in Oklahoma."

The 5'10" Johnson spent the last three seasons at Lamar, where she played in 158 sets and recorded 229 career kills and 144 blocks. Last season, Johnson totaled 216.0 points, 157 kills, 103 blocks and 38 digs in 99 sets. Among her team-leading 103 blocks, 15 were solos and 88 assists.

Johnson played her prep career at Braswell High School and was the three-time District Blocker of the Year, while earning District MVP and all-area first-team honors in 2018. She completed her high school career compiling 631 kills, 397 digs, 371 total blocks and 86 service aces in 287 sets.

"Tytiana is an amazing athlete who will be a great addition to our team. She is an aggressive blocker which will add to our defense and she is fast off the ground allowing her to be available in offense. Her experience and her joy for volleyball will be a wonderful addition to our program."

Tulsa opens the regular season at the Razorback Classic, August 26-27, with matches against Michigan State and Arkansas. The 12-match home season begins at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Thursday, Sept. 7, against city rival Oral Roberts, in the first game of the Tulsa Invitational.
