TULSA, Okla. –– An NCAA Final Four team, NIT Champions, NIT Runner-up and the CBI Champions are on Tulsa's American Athletic Conference schedule in 2023-24, as the league announced on Friday.

Tulsa's nonconference schedule has not yet been announced. It is expected to be released next week.

The 18-game AAC slate features two games each against five opponents – Charlotte UTSA, Rice, South Florida and Wichita State – and the other league opponents once. It's also a league schedule that includes six teams that made postseason tournament play last season –– FAU and Memphis in the NCAA, North Texas and UAB in the NIT and Charlotte and Rice in the CBI.

FAU advanced to the NCAA Final Four, while North Texas won the NIT Championship and Charlotte captured the CBI Title.

"We've got a really strong and deep league. With that, we'll see ourselves playing some terrific opponents both home and away," said Tulsa Head Coach Eric Konkol. "Of course, with the unbalance of it all, you'll have some teams you play twice and some teams you play once. But you look at the strength of opponents from teams that have been in the NCAA tournament, a team that's been in the Final Four and teams who have been to the finals of the NIT all in the last year. It makes for an extremely competitive conference slate.

"I've competed with each of the six teams coming in from Conference USA. I'm very familiar with their coaching staffs. They're all very strong and have tough environments to play in. You've got teams such as North Texas, UAB and FAU who are all coming off sensational seasons. Charlotte won the CBI Tournament last year. The league has gotten deeper going from 11 to 14 teams."

The Memphis Tigers, who finished 26-9 overall, 13-5 in league action and won the AAC postseason championship a year ago, opens Tulsa's American Athletic Conference schedule with a Jan. 4 game at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Tulsa then travels east for a two-game swing in North Carolina, facing East Carolina (Jan. 7) and league newcomer Charlotte (Jan. 10). Tulsa leads the series with ECU 23-7, while holding a 3-1 series advantage against Charlotte. The 49ers won the postseason CBI Championship last year, finishing the season with an overall 22-14 record.

The Golden Hurricane returns to the Reynolds Center for a two-game homestand where the Tulane Green Wave (Jan. 14) and league newcomer UTSA (Jan. 17) come to town. Tulsa has a 25-10 edge over Tulane in the series and has a 6-0 record against UTSA, with all of those meetings coming in Tulsa.

Tulsa and Tulane split last year's games with each winning on their home floor. Tulsa grabbed an 81-79 overtime win, while Tulane's win gave the Green Wave its sixth win against eight losses to Tulsa in New Orleans.

It's back on the road for two games with Tulsa going to the metroplex to face the SMU Mustangs (Jan. 20), then traveling a week later to Houston against the Rice Owls (Jan. 27).  Tulsa leads both series, 33-27 against the Mustangs and 28-6 against league newcomer Rice. The two teams last met in February 2014 as Tulsa increased its winning streak in the Rice series to 15 games.

Longtime rival, from days dating back to the Missouri Valley Conference, Wichita State closes out the month of January in Tulsa on Jan. 31.

The first two weeks of February has the Hurricane facing three teams that posted a combined .818 winning percentage with a 95-21 overall record last year.

Tulsa opens the month on the road against 2023 Final Four participant FAU on Feb. 3 in Boca Raton, Fla. The first-year AAC member finished the 2022-23 season with a 35-4 record, an 18-2 Conference USA mark and lost a one-point game, 72-71, in the national semifinals to San Diego State.

The Hurricane then has back-to-back home games against the two teams that played in the championship game of the NIT, North Texas (Feb. 7) and UAB (Feb. 11). Tulsa has a basketball history with these two newcomers to the American Athletic Conference.

The series with North Texas goes back to the 1920s and into the Missouri Valley Conference as Tulsa holds a 40-12 record against the Mean Green. UAB has a slight 9-7 edge in the series that dates back to the 1990-91 season and later as members of Conference USA.

Last season, North Teas posted an overall 31-7 record and second-place C-USA mark of 16-4, while UAB finished in third place in C-USA with a league mark of 14-6 and an overall 29-10 record.

UNT defeated UAB, 68-61, in the NIT Championship game.

Tulsa travels to Tampa to take on the South Florida Bulls on Feb. 14 in the first of two meetings on the year. The Hurricane holds a 12-2 series lead over the Bulls. A home matchup against Rice (Feb. 17), on the road at Wichita State (Feb. 21), home against Charlotte (Feb. 24) and a road match-up at UTSA (Jan. 28) closes out the month of February for Tulsa.

In March, Tulsa will play Temple in Philadelphia for their only meeting of the season on March 2, before closing out the regular season at home against South Florida (Mar. 9).

Game times and television designations will be announced at a later date.

The American Athletic Conference Championship will be played March 13-17, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
