1/13/2024 4:39:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Four Tulsa women's basketball players scored in double-figures to push the Golden Hurricane to an 81-72 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls Saturday in Boca Raton. TU improved to 13-5 and 3-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls dropped to 5-11 and 0-5 in league action.

Tulsa's double-digit scorers were Delanie Crawford, who led with 25 points, Temira Poindexter with 18 points, Ahrray Young with 14 points and Mady Cartwright with 10 points.

"I'm very proud of the way our girls played today," said Head Coach Angie Nelp. "I thought we did a great job defensively down the stretch and got stops when we needed to. I felt like we did a great job of holding [Jada Moore] to fewer points in the second half We made them try to score in different ways. Really proud of how our defense closed out in the fourth quarter."

FAU's Jada Moore led the Owls with 18 points, 15 of which came in the first half.

Fueling TU's defense was Jessika Evans, who recorded a career-high five steals and one block to go with four defensive boards. For a third consecutive game, Hadley Periman led Tulsa in rebounds (6), pulling down three on offense and three on defense.

Poindexter has now scored in double digits in the first half of a game nine times this season, with 11 coming in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
IN THE FIRST QUARTER . . .
Tulsa scored first off a three-pointer from Hadley Periman. TU used a 6-0 scoring run to lead by as many as 11 points at 17-6 before closing out the quarter 17-12. Periman would record three rebounds in the frame.

IN THE SECOND QUARTER . . .
TU started out the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 29-16 lead with five minutes to go. The Owls would turn the tide, using an 8-0 scoring run of their own to cut their deficit to three as Tulsa ended the first half on top 35-32. Temira Poindexter and Amira Brown each tallied five points while Jessika Evans recorded three steals in the period.

Despite the Hurricane holding the lead, FAU was winning the rebound battle 24-21 and was shooting 7 percent better (40%) from the field entering the break.

IN THE THIRD QUARTER . . .
Neither team led by more than five points in a competitive quarter that featured eight lead changes and five tie scores. Both teams featured a perfect shooter in the frame as Delanie Crawford went 4-of-4 for 11 points and FAU's Janeta Rozentale shot 6-for-6 for 12 points. Tulsa led 57-55 heading into the final quarter.

IN THE FOURTH QUARTER . . .
Tulsa never trailed in a quarter that the Hurricane dominated wire to wire, shooting 61.5 percent (8-13) to Florida Atlantic's 40 percent (4-10). TU's biggest lead of the game came at the 5:34 mark when the scoreboard read 73-58. Though the Owls were able to close the gap to within 9 points, the Hurricane was able to keep them at bay as Delanie Crawford drained another 11 points in the final period.
