TULSA, Okla. — Following a perfect 7-0 sweep of the Omaha Mavericks (0-3) on Saturday, the Tulsa women's tennis team wrapped up opening weekend with a 6-1 victory against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (2-1) and a 5-2 decision over the Wyoming Cowgirls (1-3) Sunday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Golden Hurricane began the day with the doubles portion of the LA Tech match after the two teams completed the singles segment Saturday evening, in which TU earned wins in all but the No. 2 position. In doubles action on Sunday, wins by Ana Naranjo Martinez and Tayla Wilmot (6-1) in the No. 3 position followed by Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings (7-6(4)) in the first position gave TU the final point in the Hurricane's 6-1 win over the Bulldogs.

After a short break, the Hurricane then began its dual match with the Cowgirls. Naranjo and Wilmot grabbed their third win together at doubles No. 3 before Singh and Zelenchuk clinched the doubles point for the Hurricane in the second position. Both winning pairs won their matches in 6-1 decisions.

The top three positions took the courts first with the top two spots going to three sets. Berlanga earned her 10th singles win of the year and her third of the young dual match season with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win at the No. 1 position. She's now 10-3 in singles matches this school year and has won her last six matches.

The bottom half of singles began after Wyoming won the second and third positions. Wilmot, a true freshman, became the second of three TU players to start the dual match season 3-0 when she defeated her Cowgirl opponent in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.

Myroslava Zelenchuk clinched the Hurricane's victory over Wyoming at 4-2 when she pulled out a 6-0, 6-4 win in the No. 5 position. As the last woman standing, Naranjo capped off the day with a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 performance in the fourth position to close out Tulsa's 5-2 win. Naranjo was the third Tulsa player to end the weekend undefeated at 3-0.

The Tulsa women are back in action at home next week when they face cross-town rival Oral Roberts (0-0) Friday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
