
Tulsa Falls to UTSA in Four-Set Heartbreaker

Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa fell in a four-set battle in the last home match of the season with UTSA. Tulsa fought through all four sets in hopes of continuing the dominant two-game win streak but came up short in a 1-3 (23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25) decision. Heading into the final conference match of the season Tulsa's record stands at 17-10 overall and 9-6 in the American Athletic Conference slate.
Starting behind in the match Tulsa fought hard to top the Roadrunners in set one by posting the match-high .152 attack percentage. The Hurricane outworked UTSA in set two with a .106 attack percentage with UTSA having a match low of .050. Set three started strong as the Hurricane watched UTSA collect a string of attack errors to put Tulsa up 3-0 before UTSA was able to push through with a .225 attack percentage.
In the 6-2 rotation Brayden Hipp and Brittany Bacorn assisted the offense with 41 assists. Hipp was able to provide support on 93 attacks collecting 24 assists. She was also able to add 13 digs to the team total of 79 and collected her 17th double-double. Bacorn was able to collect 17 assists through the four-set match and added 11 digs collecting her third double-double.
The match was a tightly fought match with Tulsa leading the kill game with 53 team kills. The Hurricane saw 11 kills from three players with Jolana Smidlova being the front-runner with a .231 attack percentage. Rachel Brown and Tatum Tornatta were also a part of the trio. Camryn Lingenbrink and Beth Bayless were able to post 8 kills to add to the total.
From the back row, Marta Pecalli was able to collect 25 digs and a 1.000 reception percentage with 34 chances. Adding to the defensive strength, Tulsa was able to put up eight team blocks with Tytiana Johnson being the large contributor with five block assists.
The Roadrunners saw a major contribution from Alicia Coppedge with nine block assists and one solo block added to the team's total of 16 blocks. Kai Bailey was successful with a .333 attack percentage and 12 kills.
Friday was also Senior Night for the Tulsa Volleyball team as they celebrated the achievements and commitment of their graduating class. "We so appreciate the time, effort, and commitment each of them have put into our program" Coach Ramatowski commented. "They've left such a lasting impact, and the program will truly miss them!"
The Golden Hurricane are set for their final regular season match on Sunday, November 17th as they travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers at 1:00 P.M. before beginning the American Athletic Conference Tournament on November 22nd.

SET 1 | Tulsa started tight with UTSA not allowing a lead of more than two points through the entire set. The set saw 16 tied scores with six lead changes recorded. Tulsa found its first lead at 2-1 after back-to-back kills from Rachel Brown. The set was kept within one point up to the media timeout where Tulsa trailed 14-15. Tulsa was able to gain momentum after falling behind 15-17 after the media timeout to take over the lead at 18-17. Tulsa was unable to maintain the lead through to the end and fell to UTSA 23-25 in set one
SET 2 | TU was able to once again keep it close with UTSA until a four-point scoring run led Tulsa out in front at 9-5 forcing a UTSA timeout. Tulsa then continued the run after the timeout to add two more points making it an 11-5 lead. Tulsa continued the dominance and maintained the lead through to the end of the set. Tulsa saw a major contribution from Beth Bayless who recorded 4 kills in the set with Tulsa able to close the set at 25-21.
SET 3 | Starting hot, Tulsa was able to establish a 3-0 lead over UTSA before seeing UTSA take the lead at 4-5. Tulsa fighting to stop the UTSA surge was reliant on the four kills from Tatum Tornatta. Tulsa continued to battle in set three and kept the deficit below five. Tulsa fell short after UTSA was able to close set three 25-17.
Set 4 | Tulsa was hungry to continue the match finding a lead early in the final set at 6-5. Tulsa continued the lead having the largest lead at 12-9 before UTSA sought to end the match stringing together a 4-0 run to take over the lead at 12-13. UTSA continued to drive through the end of the set by not losing the lead. Tulsa attempted to fight back having tied the Roadrunners three times after losing the lead. Tulsa fell short of the Roadrunners in the final set 20-25.
