This is the 33rd meeting between Tulsa and SMU in a 28-year series that began on February 18, 1996. Tulsa leads the all-times series 17-15 and is 8-2 against the Mustangs at home. SMU won last year's two meetings in 4-0 decisions, including the semifinal matchup between the two teams in the American Athletic Conference Championship that ended Tulsa's season.
The 43rd-ranked Mustangs are 8-9 on the year, including a 3-7 record against nationally ranked programs. SMU's ranked wins came against No. 17 Vanderbilt (4-3), No. 27 Denver (4-0) and No. 57 South Florida (4-0), while their losses came from No. 9 NC State, No. 15 Duke, No. 15 San Diego, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 40 FIU, No. 48 Charlotte and No. 74 UC Santa Barbara.
Though SMU's singles lineup does not feature any ranked individuals, the Mustangs have found success as five different players have grabbed at least one win over ranked opponents in head-to-head matches. In the dual-match season, SMU is paced by Hadley Doyle, who is 8-2 overall and 4-1 in her last five completed matches in the No. 3 spot.
The Mustang doubles lineup is headlined by No. 41 Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor, who are 9-4 together and 2-1 against nationally ranked doubles tandems at the No. 1 position.
Junior Maria Berlanga Bandera continues to pace Tulsa with a 10-5 dual-match record in singles play with junior teammate Lily Hutchings close behind at 9-7. Together, they are 9-6 at No. 1 Doubles while junior Ana Naranjo Martinez and Tayla Wilmot have held down the No. 3 Doubles position with a 8-4 record.
