SARASOTA, Fla. –– The University of Tulsa rowing team placed sixth overall in the final team standings at the Sunshine State Invitational, a two-day event at Nathan Benderson Park, while Tulsa's varsity eight boat finished in third place.

Miami won the Benderson Cup with 128 points, followed by USF with 123, Iowa with 121, North Carolina with 105, Michigan State with 104 and Tulsa at 99 rounding out the top six teams.

Tulsa varsity eight's third-place time in the grand final was 6:36.49, trailing first-place Miami's time of 6:33.69 and Iowa at 6:34.95. The Hurricane edged out UCF, Boston College, Michigan State, UNC and Drexel.

Representing Tulsa in the varsity eight were Isabella Musollino (coxswain), Anna Shaw, Robine Van Doorn, Darya Vyrupayeva, Madlen Markova, Emily Bell, Iffy Marinos, Kristina Harris and Johanna Kristof.

"I thought the varsity 8+ did everything they could out on the race course today. They made multiple surges throughout the race and started their sprint earlier than usual," said Tulsa Head Coach Brandon Campbell. "We have a lot of respect for our competitors this weekend but we are leaving Sarasota proud of our efforts."

Tulsa's second varsity eight clocked a first-place time of 6:51.06, outdistancing second place Jacksonville University by 03:72.

The second varsity eight boat consisted of coxswain Paloma Probart, Ermi Lamprianidou, Hannah Elsobky, Maddie Grainger, Seraina Hatt, Ashley Johnson, Nastia Ustiuzhanina, Helena Gutzmer and Ella Abraham.

The Hurricane finished the first varsity four petite race in a time of 7:35.66 for fourth place. Racing in the varsity four were Bri Gfroerer (coxswain), Taylor Hopkins, Vanja Bogdanovic, Taylor Korb and Cali Campbell

"Both the 2nd Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ talked about making the most out of their final race on Saturday morning and I think they did just that," added Campbell.

Tulsa will travel to the west coast for next week's Lake Natoma Invitational in Sacramento, Calif., April 6-7.
