
Tulsa Rolls Past Wichita State, 4-0

WICHITA, Kan. — In its final true road match of the spring season, the 72nd-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Wichita State Monday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita. The Golden Hurricane's third consecutive win heading into a six-match home stretch before the American Athletic Conference Championship (April 18-21) at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center puts TU at 9-11 on the season and drops the Shockers to 4-17.

Tulsa scored the opening doubles point after freshmen Alex Okonkwo and Victor Tosetto dominated on the way to a 6-1 win in the third position and the 30th-ranked pair of senior Pierce Rollins and sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger clinched the score for TU with a 6-4 victory atop the lineup. Rollins and Seger have won five straight and clinched the doubles point for Tulsa for the sixth time this season, while Okonkwo and Tosetto have locked up their eighth win in a row to improve to 10-2 together.

Senior Thiago Pernas was the first to strike in singles play with a 6-0, 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot. He currently holds Tulsa's best singles win streak at five and is 6-1 in his last seven completed head-to-head matches.

Moving the Hurricane to 3-0 in the dual was Okonkwo at No. 6 Singles with a two-set victory, 6-4, 7-5. Okonkwo has found his rhythm at the bottom of the lineup as the Maidenhead, England, product moves to 3-1 in the sixth position and 11-11 on the year.

Clinching Tulsa's 4-0 win and ending the day's action was senior Callum Gale in the third position with consecutive 6-4 set victories over Alejandro Jacome. Gale improved to 11-10 on the year with his second win in a row in the No. 3 slot.

The Tulsa men will kick off their home tilt with a match against No. 23 Memphis (14-4) Friday, April 5, at 6 p.m., to follow with a contest against No. 69 South Florida (9-13) Sunday, April 7, at noon.
