TULSA, Okla. — In its final push before the start of the American Athletic Conference Championship in Tulsa from April 18-21, the Golden Hurricane men's tennis team (10-12) will host Lindenwood (2-10) and league foes Temple (7-11) and SMU (16-7) for four matches in four days at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulsa will take on Lindenwood Friday and Saturday evenings, with 6 p.m. and 5 p.m. start times, respectively. The Hurricane will honor seniors Callum Gale and Volodymyr Zakharov Saturday morning at 10:30 for its Senior Day match against Temple before wrapping up the regular season with a ranked showdown against No. 40 SMU Monday at 5 p.m. TU will be giving away free ice cream to fans during the SMU match.
The Tulsa-SMU stream will be hosted by the Cracked Racquets crew on ESPN+. Fans unable to attend the action in person can subscribe to ESPN+ to watch select Golden Hurricane tennis, football, volleyball, soccer, softball and basketball games. Friday and Saturday will be the first-ever meetings between Tulsa and Lindenwood. The Lions are 2-10 on the year with their only wins coming against Thomas More and Shawnee State in February.
Nathan Matsuguma (3-7) and Fernando Martin Paz (3-8) each lead Lindenwood with three wins. In doubles, the tandems of Martinez Paz and Alonso De Prada with Matsuguma and Bernardo Henriques each have two wins this year.
Tulsa and Temple will meet for the sixth time on Saturday. The Hurricane leads the all-time series 4-1 and is 3-1 against the Owls at home.
Wins in its last two duals against Hampton and Monmouth have Temple at 7-11 overall.
Adam Kresina leads the Owls in singles action with a 9-4 record across the third, fourth and fifth positions. Martim Marujo and Paul Hannack are 3-0 together with wins in the second and third positions in doubles play.
This will be the 30th meeting between Tulsa and SMU in a series that dates back to the 1994 dual-match season. Wins in the last four meetings moved the Mustangs ahead in the series 16-13 and 7-4 against the Hurricane in Tulsa.
Ranked No. 40 in the latest ITA poll, SMU is 16-7 overall and 3-6 against ranked opponents. Their ranked wins came against No. 57 Cornell (5-2), No. 34 Middle Tennessee (4-1) and #27 Memphis (4-0). SMU's sweep over the league's top-ranked team in the Tigers came in their last outing at home on April 7.
Ranked in singles play for the Mustangs are No. 33 Trevor Svajda and No. 97 Adam Neff—the league's reigning Player of the Year. Svajda is 14-4 overall at the No. 1 position, while Neff is 8-8 across the top two positions. Neff and Huntley Allen form SMU's premiere doubles team at 9-3 overall, including a 4-0 mark against nationally-ranked doubles tandems this season.
Senior Pierce Rollins and sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger moved up a spot to No. 37 in this week's ITA doubles rankings. The pair are 13-6 overall and 8-4 in dual matches at the No. 1 position. Previously unranked, Rollins—the reigning AAC Player of the Week—made the jump to No. 80 in the singles poll after grabbing two wins over the nation's No. 55 and 65-ranked singles players last week in the No. 1 slot. Rollins' three-match win streak has him at 8-10 atop the lineup and 3-5 against ranked players this year.
