Tulsa (27-14, 12-6 AAC) will play its final midweek and nonconference game of the season against OU (38-4, 15-3 Big XII). The Golden Hurricane is 10-47 all-time against the Sooners and seek its first neutral site win in the series. The Hall of Fame Stadium is the site of the Women's College World Series.
The Hurricane will finish the week with a three-game conference series against The American foe Charlotte (25-16, 12-6 AAC). Tulsa is an undefeated 6-0 against the 49ers, but have not played since 2014, Tulsa's final season in C-USA and Charlotte's first.
The Hurricane went 2-2 last week, with a series win against East Carolina in the Collins Family Softball Complex, and a narrow 3-2 loss at No. 5 Oklahoma State. Pitcher Maura Moore earned The American Weekly Honor Roll accolades for a 2-0 weekend with 18 strikeouts in wins on Friday and Sunday against the Pirates. Senior shortstop Imani Edwards was also named to the honor roll, batting above .300 with a home run, double, four driven in and four runs scored.
Edwards (.403) and MacKenzie Denson (.411) pace Tulsa in hitting this season. They are two of six Hurricane hitting above .300. Florida Atlantic has the second-most batters above .300 with five. Denson sits third in the conference, and Edwards fifth. As a team, the Hurricane is batting .325, leading the conference and ranking 18th nationally. Tulsa is also 18th in doubles (69) and third in triples per game (0.48). The defense gets credit as well, as the Hurricane holds the 18th-best fielding percentage in the nation (.976).
A perennial powerhouse, OU is in the midst of what the Sooners would consider a slump, going 3-3 in its last six games. Four losses is already tied for the most since 2021. Regardless, the Sooners still top the Big XII standings and a series win against BYU over the weekend. The Sooners lead the nation in batting average (.379), and on-base percentage (.483) and rank in the top five for slugging (.692), runs per game (8.45) and home runs (85). They also get it done in the circle and defensively with a nation-leading 18 shutouts and a 1.65 ERA that ranks fourth, nationally.
Charlotte hosted Wichita State over the weekend and took the first two games of the series before narrowly dropping the finale. Arianna Rodi brings power to the 49ers offense, hitting a conference-leading 16 home runs through 41 games, which puts her ninth in the NCAA. She's not all power, though, hitting for average as well, slashing .364/.497/.822. Ella Chancy (.328) and Kiyah Garrett (.310) also hit above .300 this season.
After the Sooners and weekend series with the 49ers, Tulsa will return to the Collins Family Softball Complex for one last series this season. The Golden Hurricane will host conference newcomer UTSA on Friday, April 26 for the start of a three-game series.
