FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Junior Evan Sanni-Thomas had himself a day at Arkansas' John McDonnell Invitational as The Woodlands, Texas, native sprinted to the top of the record outdoor record books with a 46.44 finish in the 400-meter dash. On the women's side, senior Chloe Hershenow, senior Tamara Reeves and junior Robyn Kowalski etched their names on the Golden Hurricane top-10 chart in the outdoor 3,000-meters. As a group Tulsa athletes gained a crucial tune-up, recording 22 combined personal bests.
Women
Tulsa women comprised five of the 12 total athletes in the 3,000-meter run, finishing all in a row from second through sixth place. Tulsa's top three finishers took advantage of the uncommon outdoor event as Hershenow finished in 9:47.41 for second place, Reeves crossed the line in 9:47.46 for third and Kowalski closed out in 9:52.22 for fourth. As it stands, Hershenow's time is the third-fastest outdoor 3,000-meter mark, while Reeves sits in fourth all-time and Kowalski sixth.
Another five-runner group competed for Tulsa in the 200-meter dash, including Elizabeth Roca, Raniya Laneau, Kamree Dye, Sajara Hill and Mary Rocco-Phillips. Roca, a senior, led all Hurricane runners and finished in 11th, setting a new personal record in 24.37. Laneau cruised a career mark of 24.37 for 22nd place, while Dye placed 37th, Hill 42nd and Rocco-Phillips 54th.
Sophomore Christian Gregory and freshman Anastasia Small stepped up as Tulsa's representatives in the 800-meter run, composed of 30 runners. Each Hurricane set a new personal best as Gregory took 9th in 2:15.26 and Small placed 13th in 2:17.63.
