
Tulsa Golfers Get Invite to NCAA Auburn Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –– The University of Tulsa women's golf team will be in the NCAA Championship field as the Golden Hurricane received an at-large bid to the NCAA Auburn Regional, May 6-8, at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Alabama. It will be Tulsa's 20th regional appearance since the regional format began in 1993 and the third time in the last four years.
A total of 72 teams will compete at six regional sites, competing to advance to the NCAA Finals, May 17-22, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Tulsa is the No. 8 seed in the Auburn Regional, which also includes No. 1 seed South Carolina, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Houston, No. 9 Miami (Fla.), No. 10 Kennesaw State, No. 11 East Tennessee State and No. 12 Albany. South Carolina is ranked second nationally, while host Auburn is the nation's seventh-ranked team.
Thirty teams will advance to the championship in Carlsbad — five from each of the six regional sites. A total of 156 players will advance to the championship, with the top five teams and top individual (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.
Tulsa, ranked 47th in the latest Clippd ratings, has finished among the top-five six times in 11 tournaments this season, while capturing tournament victories at the and Dale McNamara Invitational and the Nexus Cup.
The Hurricane is coming off a second-place performance at the American Athletic Conference Championship, where all five Tulsa golfers finished among the top-25. Lovisa Gunnar placed second with an 8-under par score, followed by Grace Kilcrease's 6-under par finish for third place and Allyn Stephens in 10th place.
Tulsa has won two regional titles, both in the central region in back-to-back seasons of 2001 and 2002. The Hurricane has captured four national championships including the 1980 AIAW, 1982 AIAW, 1982 NCAA and 1988 NCAA Championships.
