
Tulsa Men’s Tennis Begins Spring with Home Doubleheader and Road Test

TULSA, Okla. —The University of Tulsa men's tennis team is set to begin the spring season this weekend with a doubleheader in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center against Omaha (0-0) and Cornell (0-0) on Friday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. Then, the Golden Hurricane will head to Fayetteville to take on Arkansas (2-0) at noon.

Scouting Omaha
- This will be the fifth meeting in the last decade between Tulsa and Omaha. TU won the last four matchups in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, all in Tulsa.
- The last time the two teams met was on Jan. 21, 2021, where the Hurricane dominated in a 6-1 decision.
Scouting Cornell
- Friday marks the third all-time meeting between Tulsa and Cornell. The series is knotted up at 1-1 with the home team getting victories in each match.
- Tulsa fell last time, 4-2, in Ithaca, N.Y. after winning the first matchup 4-3 in Tulsa.
- The Big Red's singles lineup is headlined by Radu Papoe, who is ranked No. 23 in the nation with a 9-3 record entering Friday's action.
- Rushil Khosla and Eric Verdes together form the country's No. 61 doubles pairing. They are 7-2 together so far this season.
Scouting Arkansas
- Sunday is the 28th meeting in a series that dates back to 1977. The Razorbacks lead 15-13.
- Arkansas won the last two meetings 4-1. Tulsa's last win came on Feb. 16, 2022, in a 4-3 winner at home.
- Jakub Vrba is ranked 85th in the nation in singles play. He is 7-1 with his only loss coming to Tulsa newcomer Luis Felipe Miguel in the fall.
On the Roster
- Among the 11-member roster, Tulsa features six returning letterwinners and welcomed five newcomers for the 2024-25 season.
- Returning from last year's championship squad are redshirt freshman Calum Jestin, redshirt junior Will Pellegrini, junior Timothy Carlsson Seger, redshirt sophomore Gus Tettamble, sophomore Victor Tosetto and American Athletic Conference individual champion Alex Okonkwo, a sophomore.
- The three newcomers are freshmen Adam Bojkovic (Randolph, N.J.), Connor Doig (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Nikola Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia). They are joined by junior transfers Reiya Komagata (Cowley College) and Luis Felipe Miguel (Liberty).
Spring 2024 Recap
- The Hurricane posted an overall record 18-13 last spring, capped off by a perfect 3-0 run in the UTR Sports NIT Championship in Bradenton, Fla., for Tulsa's first postseason title to go with its 16 conference titles.
- Tulsa beat Saint Louis (4-0), Santa Clara (4-1) and Pacific (4-1) to win the title.
- TU grabbed one ranked win, a 4-1 decision over No. 40 SMU at home
