
Tulsa Shoots Up Leaderboard to Finish Tied for 5th at Briar’s Creek Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. –– The Golden Hurricane women golfers shot an 8-under-par 280 in Tuesday's final round to move up eighth spots and finish in a tie for fifth at 10-over at the Briar's Creek Invitational. The Tuesday score equaled Florida State's Sunday round and the two schools were to shoot under par in a round.
The Seminoles took home the team win after carding a 1-under 287 on Tuesday to finish nine strokes under par. Purdue and SMU tied for second place but still finished 14 strokes behind the leaders. Campbell finished a stroke ahead of Tulsa to place fourth, and East Carolina joined the Hurricane in rounding out the top five.
Tulsa led the field in pars, recording 122 over the two rounds, eight more than Maryland in second. TU was also bottom three in double bogeys, committing just six. The Hurricane's strength was on par-5s, where Tulsa recorded a 4-under-par score, averaging 4.89 strokes per par-5.
Allyn Stephens and Romaine Masserey both had 3-under, 69 stroke performances to move up 30 places into a four-way tie for 17th at +1 for the weekend. After recording just one birdie in round one, Stephens responded with five on Tuesday. The sophomore was 2-over for the day when she carded her first birdie on five. She followed with five consecutive birdies on seven through 11 before a bogey denied her an even finish.
Masserey had a similar beginning with bogeys on her first two holes. She then birdied 14 to get going. The graduate golfer picked up birdies on holes two and four, the two par-3s on the front nine. She followed her second birdie with another on five. The fifth and final birdie was on 11, her final hole of the tournament.
Sydney Seigel finished a stroke behind Masserey and Stephens in a tie for 24th after a 2-under-par performance on Tuesday. She came out with birdies on 12 and 18 after starting on 11. She then opened the front nine with six straight pars before a birdie on seven. Seigel closed the invitational with a bogey to finish 2-over for the weekend.
Jenni Roller finished even for the day and 8-over for the invitational after collecting a pair of birdies and bogeys on Tuesday. She moved up 29 spots and tied for 49th. Lovisa Gunnar was a stroke behind Roller for the weekend, finishing in a tie for 54th after carding a 9-over-par 153 in her two rounds. She moved up 11 spots after her +3 on Tuesday.
