Hurricane Women Clip the Mean Green, 4-2

FORT WORTH, Texas — Winners of four consecutive matches and six of their last seven contests, the Tulsa women's tennis team took down the North Texas Mean Green (6-9) in a 4-2 decision Wednesday in the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on TCU's campus. The Golden Hurricane improved to 14-4 with five dual matches left in the regular season.

Strong winds in the Dallas-Fort Worth area forced the match to be moved to TCU's indoor courts, where TU earned a 4-3 win against the Horned Frogs the previous day.

The Hurricane nabbed the doubles point thanks to wins from both its ranked senior duos. Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings stomped their opponent 6-0 in the No. 1 position before Ana Naranjo Martinez and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez punched in the opening score for TU with a 7-5 decision in the two-slot, leaving sophomore Tayla Wilmot and freshman Isabella Basson unfinished at five games all.

Although North Texas ran away with wins in the first and fourth singles positions, it was not enough to keep up with Tulsa, who earned straight-set victories from Velasquez in the No. 2 position and Naranjo in the No. 5 court. Clinching and ending the day's action was Hutchings, who erased a tiebreaker loss in the first set and won 12 of 16 games in the second and third frames to hand Tulsa its 14^th dual-match victory.

The Tulsa women will conclude their road trip with an American Athletic Conference showdown against North Texas (6-8) on Wednesday, March 19, at 4 p.m. and a neutral contest against Arizona (14-5) on Sunday, March 23, on Oklahoma State's campus in Stillwater with first serves at 10 a.m.
