TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team celebrated their Senior Day by shutting out the 17-3 UTSA Roadrunners en route to a 5-0 win on a beautiful Saturday morning on the Michael D. Case Tennis Center outdoor courts.

The Golden Hurricane have now won five of their last six dual matches, rising to 15-5 overall with just three regular season American Athletic Conference matches to go.

Tulsa grabbed its 16th doubles point out of 20 dual matches this season and 14th opening score in 15 wins on Saturday. The senior pairs in the first and second positions fittingly secured the lead after Ana Naranjo Martinez and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez won 6-1 in the No. 2 spot and Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings closed out a 6-2 decision atop the lineup.

In typical fashion Berlanga was the first to finish in singles play, stomping out her opponent 6-4, 6-1 in her usual spot at No. 1 Singles. She improved to 22-6 overall and 15-4 in dual matches.

Making it a 3-0 dual match was Naranjo in the five-slot. She produced a quick 6-3, 6-2 result to capture her 10th victory in spring action (10-2).

After Tulsa dropped first sets in the second and fourth courts, Hutchings and sophomore Erin McKenzie began to pull away from their Roadrunner counterparts at an equal pace. It got to a point where both Hurricane made it to match point in their respective courts with both final rallies happening at the same time. It would be Hutchings who finished first by just a few seconds, closing out a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 winner at No. 3 Singles with McKenzie following suit with a 6-2, 6-3 at the sixth position. Tulsa would end the match there with an unusual 5-0 clinch score to earn its 15th win of the 2025 season.

The Tulsa women will hit the road for a pair of matches in New Orleans, starting with undefeated Florida Atlantic (11-0) on Saturday, April 5, and ending the weekend against Tulane (9-9) on Sunday, April 6. The regular season finale will take place in Memphis against the 6-11 Tigers on Sunday, April 13.
