Tulsa Women’s Golf Leads After Day 1 of the AAC Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. –– After the first day of the American Athletic Conference Championship, the Tulsa Women's Golf team holds a seven-shot advantage. The Golden Hurricane shot their best round of the season by shooting nine-under-par 279.
TU holds the seven-shot lead over East Carolina, who was two-under-par 286. Tulsa led all teams in the field with 19 birdies on the day and had the best scoring on par 4s.
Lovisa Gunnar and Romaine Masserey shot the lowest rounds of the day. They each shot four-under-par 68 to hold a share of the lead going into round two. Gunnar tied her lowest round of the season with the 68. She was one-under on the front nine and closed out the day, going three-under on the back nine.
Masserey shot her second-best round at TU with a 68. She closed out her front nine with birdies on four of the final five holes, including three straight on seven, eight, and nine. She shot even-par on the back nine.
Jenni Roller sits three shots off the lead after firing a one-under-par 71 in the opening round. She was even-par on the front nine, with four straight pars going into her closing hole. She earned a birdie on 18 to close out the day and finish one under.
Sydney Seigel opened her front nine with two bogeys on holes three and four, but she birded nine and ten to get back to even par. She shot one-under on the back nine, finished even-par 72, and is tied for tenth after the first round at the American Championship.
Rounding out the Golden Hurricane in the field was Allyn Stephens. She carded the first birdie of the day for Tulsa with a birdie on hole two. She was finished the day five-over-par 77 and is tied for 38th.
The Golden Hurricane tee off for the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Tuesday at 7:50 a.m. CT from hole one. Stephens will lead the TU players for the round as TU will play with East Carolina and Charlotte. Seigel (8 a.m. CT), Roller (8:10 a.m. CT), Masserey (8:20 a.m. CT) and Gunnar (8:30 a.m. CT) will follow for Tulsa.
