NORMAN, Okla. / STANFORD, Calif. — The Tulsa men's and women's track teams gained crucial outdoor experience this week with the majority of the squad competing at Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational and a group of six long-distance men appearing at the Stanford Invitational, which wrapped up in the early morning hours on Saturday. Golden Hurricane student-athletes combined for four podium finishes and 19 new personal bests.
Women
Four Tulsa women would find their way to the podium in Norman, including the Hurricane's premier 800m junior duo of Sarah Hosey and Billie Rouse. Hosey took second in 2:12.24 with Rouse finishing right behind at 2:13.16.
True freshman Alexis Cavin, who's also a member of the Tulsa women's soccer team, sped her way to a 24.65 mark in the 200m for third place. Her freshman teammate Matilda Laidlaw flexed her long-distance talent with a 4:36.22 performance in the 1,500 for second place.
Men
Tulsa's Norman contingent included eight true freshmen who continue to develop. Four of them, including Xander Rhynes, Colin Madison, Luke Finzen and Carson Miller formed the meet's fourth-place 4x400m relay team, who finished in 3:23.54.
Meanwhile, in Stanford, Calif., all six of TU's long-distance men set new outdoor personal bests. The Stanford Invite was one of the biggest meets in the country this weekend as athletes from 92 universities competed. Highlighting the group was redshirt senior Shay McEvoy, who represented Tulsa in Section No. 1 of the 10,000m. He produced a personal best of 28:22.95, which stands as the eighth-best 10K performance in program history.
