Clack’s Career Day Leads Tulsa to 64-53 Road Win at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (12-5, 4-1 American) ended their North Carolina road swing with a 64-53 victory over Charlotte (8-10, 2-3 American) at Halton Arena, showcasing a commanding 40-25 rebounding advantage fueled by nine boards from junior guard Jade Clack, who had a career performance in Tulsa's fourth American Conference win of the season.
Clack led the squad with 22 points, nine boards and four steals – all career-bests for the Buda, Texas, native. She went 9-14 from the field and added two 3-pointers and two made free throws.
Three other Tulsa players scored in double-figures to close out the road trip, including Hannah Riddick (11), Dora Toman (11) and Abby Jegede (10).
Tulsa started strong in the first quarter, quickly taking a 5-0 lead with a layup from Hannah Riddick and a three-pointer by Dora Toman at 7:53. Abby Jegede extended the lead with another layup, assisted by Toman, making it 7-0. Charlotte responded with a fastbreak layup by Asianae Nicholson at 6:18, but Tulsa maintained control. Despite Princess Anderson's efforts with free throws, the Golden Hurricane's defense held firm, leading to a 17-10 advantage at the end of the quarter. Clack closed the period with a fastbreak layup, solidifying Tulsa's seven-point lead.
Clack opened the second quarter for Tulsa with a layup assisted by Mady Cartwright, extending their lead to 19-10. Charlotte responded with a three-pointer from Karen Nimo, narrowing the gap to 21-13. Tulsa's Clack and Cartwright continued to contribute offensively, with Clack scoring a crucial layup and Cartwright adding a fast-break layup, maintaining the team's advantage. Charlotte's Tanajah Hayes scored a late jumper at 0:07, trimming the halftime deficit to 30-27 in favor of Tulsa.
In the third quarter, the Golden Hurricane widened their lead over Charlotte, finishing the period with a 19-10 advantage. Riddick's layup at 8:05 initiated a scoring spree, and Clack contributed with a jumper and two free throws, increasing Tulsa's margin. Jegede added to the effort with a layup and two successful free throws. Charlotte's attempts to close the gap included a layup by Anderson and a three-pointer by Taliah Cornish, but Tulsa's defensive rebounding kept them at bay. The quarter ended with Tulsa leading Charlotte 49-37.
In the final quarter, Charlotte's Caitlin Staley scored a layup at 9:40, assisted by Nicholson. Tulsa responded with a three-pointer by Clack at 8:27, followed by another three from Toman at 7:51, widening the gap. Despite Hayes contributing consistently in the paint, the Golden Hurricane maintained their lead with Riddick's layup and free throw at 5:38. Jegede sealed the game for Tulsa with a jumper at 0:14, though Hayes hit a late three-pointer for Charlotte as time expired, finalizing the score at 64-53 in favor of TU.
Tulsa will return home to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to host first-place Rice (15-3, 5-0 American) on Tuesday, January 20, for a clash between two of the top teams in the conference. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
