Golden Hurricane Topples Tulane with 17-Point Comeback

1/6/2026 9:51:00 PM | Women's Basketball

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Tulsa (10-4, 2-0 American) edged Tulane (6-9, 1-2 American), 76-73, by overcoming a 17-point second-quarter deficit with a massive 29-point fourth quarter. Redshirt senior forward Hannah Riddick had 12 points and eight rebounds in the fourth quarter alone to push Tulsa to a tough road victory.

Riddick would go on to earn her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. She had the go-ahead second-chance layup with a few seconds to go. Junior guard Mady Cartwright also finished with 20 points with freshman guard Dora Toman finished behind her in scoring with 13 points.

Toman initiated the first-quarter scoring with a layup at 9:45, followed by Hannah Riddick's jumper to give the visitors an early lead. Mady Cartwright added a three-pointer at 5:46, assisted by Riddick, leveling the score. Tulane's Jayda Brown responded with a layup at 4:48, narrowing the Golden Hurricane's lead. As the quarter drew to a close, Layla-J Cameron hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining, bringing Tulsa within one point of Tulane, who led 15-14 at the end of the quarter.

Tulane dominated the second quarter with a 22-12 scoring advantage over Tulsa. Early in the quarter, Dyllan Hanna and CC Mays contributed consecutive layups, pushing the Green Wave ahead 19-14 by the 9:02 mark. Kanija Daniel's three-pointer at 4:56 extended their lead to 30-18. Despite a late effort from the Golden Hurricane, including a jumper by Riddick at 0:38 and a layup by Cartwright with just three seconds remaining, Tulane maintained control, closing the quarter with a 37-26 overall lead.

Tulsa narrowed the gap in the third quarter against the Green Wave, starting with Riddick's tip-in at 9:35, bringing the score to 28-37. Jade Clack added a fast-break layup at 7:16, assisted by Cartwright, reducing the deficit to five points. Tulsa tied the game at 46 with Cartwright's two successful free throws at 1:57. However, Tulane regained the lead with Daniel's layup at 00:07, concluding the quarter 50-47 in favor of the home team. Tulsa outscored Tulane 21-13 in the quarter, setting up a competitive final quarter.

Tulsa edged out Tulane with a dramatic 76-73 victory, sealing the win in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Riddick's critical layup with 11 seconds remaining, followed by a successful free throw, turned a one-point deficit into a 74-72 lead for the Golden Hurricane. Cartwright further extended the advantage by sinking two crucial free throws with five seconds left, making it a three-point game. Tulane's attempt to tie the game with a last-second three-pointer by Brown was unsuccessful, allowing Tulsa to secure the win.

The Golden Hurricane will return home to host Temple (7-7, 1-1 American) on Friday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
