Golden Hurricane Come Up Short Against TCU

2/15/2026 1:36:00 PM | Women's Tennis

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa (4-6) fell 4-0 to TCU (4-1) on Saturday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, as the Horned Frogs secured the doubles point and claimed three straight singles victories to clinch the match.

The Golden Hurricane showed resilience throughout doubles play, particularly at the top two positions. After dropping the No. 2 match, Tulsa battled back on courts one and three to keep the point within reach.

At No. 1 doubles, Maria Santos and Carolina Alonso fought back from an early deficit to close the gap to 3-5 before ultimately falling 6-3 to Victoria Gomez and Yu-Chin Tsai. A similar rally unfolded at No. 3, where Isabella Basson and Uta Asakura also battled back to 3-5 before their match was left unfinished with TCU leading. The Horned Frogs secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 position.

Tulsa opened singles competition with strong energy across the lineup. Through the first two games of the opening set, the Golden Hurricane were leading or level on five of six courts, marking a competitive start despite the early doubles setback.

TCU, however, capitalized on key momentum swings in the middle of the lineup. Cristina Ramos claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Alice Baba, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 loss for Lilitha Ndungane at No. 4. Yu-Chin Tsai sealed the team win with a 6-2, 6-4 result over Coral Valle.

Several matches remained tightly contested when play was halted. At No. 1, Santos split sets with Cabellero, taking the first 6-3 before dropping the second 6-3. Basson was in the midst of a second-set push at No. 2, trailing 4-6, 5-4, while Erin McKenzie competed at No. 6 in an unfinished match.

Tulsa will look to build on the competitive stretches shown in today's match to get back into the win column at the Arizona Invite in Tucson, Ariz., next weekend on Feb. 20 and 21.
