HOUSTON, Texas – Tulsa women's tennis (8-10) was swept 7-0 by fellow American Conference member Rice (9-5) in the Golden Hurricane's first road match in nearly a month.

Rice claimed the doubles point in decisive fashion. Uma Bakaityte and Darya Schwartzman opened with a 6-1 win over Maria Santos and Carolina Alonso, followed by a 6-2 result over Tayla Wilmot and Coral Valle. The third match went unfinished, with Erin McKenzie and Isabella Basson trailing 4-3.

Tulsa put up a fight in singles, taking all but two matches to a third set. Santos was first off the court, falling 6-0, 6-1 to Schwartzman, while Alice Baba dropped a 7-6, 6-1 decision. At the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, Basson and Alonso each captured their opening sets 7-5 and 7-6, respectively, before dropping the next two sets. Valle was the lone Golden Hurricane to win in the second set, recovering from a 6-1 first set with a 6-4 response, but she ultimately came up short in the final set. McKenzie closed out the day in a tight three-set battle, falling 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 to Rice's Fernanda Martinez.

Tulsa continues its Texas trip on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. match at UTSA.
