3/22/2026 3:41:00 PM | Women's Tennis
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Tulsa women's tennis delivered a dominant performance on Sunday morning, sweeping UTSA 4-0 at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches with a new-look lineup. Maria Santos and Isabella Basson secured a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position, while the duos of Uta Asakura and Carolina Alonso and Lilitha Ndungane and Erin McKenzie each posted 6-2 victories to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead. The pairings of Santos/Basson and Asakura/Alonso were each making their debut together this season, while Ndungane and McKenzie teamed up for the first time since Tulsa's Feb. 13 match against Tulane.
Tulsa carried that momentum into singles play, quickly extending its advantage with straight-set wins on three courts. Alonso was first to finish, earning a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot. Santos followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win on court one, putting the Hurricane within one point of the match.
McKenzie clinched the 4-0 sweep for Tulsa at the No. 6 position, defeating Giuliana Giardina 6-4, 6-1 for her second match-clinching win of the season.
Three additional singles matches went unfinished, with Basson, Alice Baba, and Coral Valle all in competitive positions when play was halted.
Tulsa improves to 9-10 on the season with the win, closing out the road matchup in just over two hours. Next up, the Golden Hurricane return home for a matchup with Abeline Christian on Friday, March 27.
