Tulsa Sweeps New Mexico State Twice on Friday

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa men's tennis claimed a pair of 4-0 wins over New Mexico State on Friday, improving to 13-10 on the season.
The victories gave the Golden Hurricane three wins this week, their highest weekly total of the year. The team also matched its longest win streak this season at three.
In the first match, Tulsa set the tone in doubles. The pairings of Nikita Volonski and Timothy Carlsson Seger and Gus Tettamble and Ruben Fernandez each secured 6-1 wins on their respective courts to earn the doubles point. Takeshi Taco and Reiya Komagata left their match unfinished at 2-3.
In singles, Tettamble struck first with a 6-2, 6-1 win over NMSU's Laurendi Fischer. Taco followed with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.
Volonski clinched the morning match, his third match-securing win of the year, with a 6-4, 6-4 result to seal the 4-0 victory.
When the Golden Hurricane and the Aggies returned to the courts in the evening, Tulsa kept the same lineup for both doubles and singles. Doubles play tightened in the second match, as New Mexico State opened with a 6-1 win over Tettamble and Fernandez. Volonski and Carlsson Seger responded with a 6-3 win on court one, and Taco and Komagata secured the point with a 6-2 result.
In singles, Tulsa continued its strong play. Taco finished first with a 6-3, 6-1 win over NMSU's Matias Rojas. Shortly after, Volonski earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory, marking his team-leading 10th singles win of the year.
Carlsson Seger clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position, improving to eight wins in 2026 and recording his first clinch of the season.
Fernandez was the lone Golden Hurricane pushed into a third set before the match was halted at 6-7 (7-9), 6-0, 1-2. Tettamble and Komagata also left their matches unfinished.
Tulsa will return to the courts Sunday to face VCU at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at 10 a.m. for the final match of the season streamed on ESPN+. Senior Day festivities will begin prior to the match, and the first 50 fans will receive free Tulsa Tennis rally towels.
