IRVING, Texas – The American Conference announced Sara Morefield as women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon following her program-record 3,000-meter steeplechase time at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend.
Morefield, a native of Lucas, Texas, ran a 10:00.34 to win her section of the 3,000 m steeple in Palo Alto, Calif. The time ranks sixth-fastest in the NCAA this outdoor season.
In her outdoor season debut at the ORU Invitational last week, Morefield claimed the 1,500-meter title with a time of 4:35.09.
The sophomore is coming off a strong indoor season, where she won the 3,000 meters in a personal-best 9:23.93, good for fourth all-time at Tulsa, at the American Indoor Track and Field Championships. She also earned bronze in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best 16:14.35, moving to second in school history.
Morefield added multiple marks to the indoor record book throughout the season, including the fifth-fastest 3,000 m time in school history at the Tyson Invitational. She also won the event in 9:34.29 at the Washburn Open.
She continued her success in the mile, winning the Thane Baker Invitational in 4:55.12 and finishing runner-up at the Crimson & Gold Invite with a time of 5:01.88.
Tulsa track continues its outdoor season this weekend, sending athletes to the John Jacobs Invitational on April 10 in Norman and the Arkansas Spring Invitational on April 11.
