Tulsa Earns Two Podium Finishes to Open American Outdoor Championships

DENTON, Texas – Tulsa track and field opened competition at the American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday with two podium finishes in the men's 10,000-meter run and athletes advancing to finals competition in the 400 m hurdles and 1500 m run.

Shay McEvoy led the way for the Golden Hurricane in the men's 10,000 meters, earning silver with a time of 30:29.44 to repeat as an all-conference podium finisher after placing third in the event last season. Ben Brown followed closely behind for bronze, crossing in 30:29.49 to give Tulsa a pair of podium finishers in the race. Joseph Stoddard added a sixth-place finish in 30:48.56, while James Knockton placed 10th in 31:16.08.

Tulsa also saw success in the qualifying rounds Thursday evening. Colin Madison secured a spot in the men's 400-meter hurdles final after running 51.46 to finish sixth overall in prelims.

In the men's 1,500 meters, Sean Korsmo advanced to the final with a second-place prelim time of 3:51.90, while Charlie Krasnoff also qualified after clocking 3:56.60. Graham Stevener just missed advancement with a time of 3:56.86.

Matilda Laidlaw moved on to the women's 1,500-meter final after placing fourth in prelims with a mark of 4:35.35. Sarah Hosey finished 16th in 4:46.95.

On the women's side, Alexis Cavin paced Tulsa in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 23.74, followed by Kamree Dye at 24.13 and Cahsia Page at 24.97. Lianne Holtermann competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles prelims, finishing in 1:02.70.

In the women's 10,000 meters, Robyn Kowalski placed eighth in 36:48.43, while Ailey Mitchell finished 12th in 38:26.48.

After day one of competition, the Tulsa men sit fourth in the team standings with 17 points, while the women are 10th with one point.
