Koonts Leads Tulsa on Final Day of American Outdoor Championships

DENTON, Texas – Tulsa closed out the American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the Golden Hurricane men placing sixth overall, while the women finished 10th in the team standings.

The women's distance squad highlighted the day with a dominant performance in the 5,000 meters. Kathryn Koonts captured the conference championship with a personal-best time of 16:39.56, moving to 10th in school history, while Sara Morefield joined her on the podium with a bronze-medal finish in 16:44.82. The duo returned to the podium just one day after going 1-2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, combining to lead Tulsa in point scoring at the championship meet. Matilda Laidlaw added a 12th-place finish in 17:38.36, while Robyn Kowalski crossed in 17:59.26.

Tulsa also stacked points in the men's 5,000 meters with five runners finishing in the top seven. Levi Rowan led the way with a bronze-medal finish in 14:09.11, followed by Ben Brown in fourth at 14:18.67. Shay McEvoy placed fifth in 14:31.43, Luke Birdseye finished sixth in 14:31.50 and Charlie Krasnoff took seventh in 14:31.70. Joseph Stoddard added a ninth-place finish in 14:43.51, Luke Lambert crossed 10th in 14:46.82 and James Knockton placed 15th in 14:55.43.

Evan Sanni-Thomas delivered one of Tulsa's top performances in the men's 400 meters, earning bronze with a time of 46.42. The mark ranks as the second-fastest time in school history.

Joseph Snyder also secured a podium finish for the Golden Hurricane, taking bronze in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:53.67. In the women's 800 meters, Grace MacDonald placed seventh in 2:16.71, while Hannah Taylor finished eighth in 2:17.62.

In the 1,500 meters, Sean Korsmo narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in 3:49.60, while Charlie Krasnoff followed closely behind in fifth at 3:49.72. On the women's side, Matilda Laidlaw placed eighth in 4:36.26.

Colin Madison added points in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in 51.39 before also contributing to both relay squads. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Madison, Harrison Stapleton, Jonathan Lee and Caleb Goodman finished eighth in 42.50. Tulsa's men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Madison, Stapleton, Snyder and Sanni-Thomas closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in 3:10.39. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Alexis Cavin, Kamree Dye, Lianne Holtermann and Annie-May Cannings placed eighth in 3:42.54.

Tulsa's qualifiers will now look forward to the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Arkansas May 27-30.
