Duffy Conroy

Duffy Conroy joined The University of Tulsa basketball coaching staff in March 2022 after spending seven seasons on Eric Konkol’s staff at Louisiana Tech.

In three seasons, Conroy has been integral in helping rebuild the Golden Hurricane basketball program. In 2024-25, the Golden Hurricane won 13 games, including the first regular season sweep of Wichita State since 1995-96 and first win in Charles Koch Arena since 2001. TU also won its first conference tournament game since 2022, taking down Temple in the opening round. The largest jump under Conroy was in the second season, improving 11 victories from year one to year two. Tulsa posted a 16-15 overall record with seven American Athletic Conference wins in the 2023-24 season.

At Tulsa, Conroy has helped coach National Freshman of the Year and The American Freshman of the Year PJ Haggerty, as well as two all-conference selections, Haggerty and Dwon Odom, and four all-freshman honorees in Ian Smikle, Matt Reed, Tyshawn Archie and Haggerty.

During his LA Tech tenure, the Bulldogs registered seven straight winning seasons, including six with 20+ victories and an overall 153-75 record with two postseason tournament appearances.

In 2021-22, LA Tech finished with 24 wins and advanced to the Conference USA Tournament Championship game after victories over Marshall, Western Kentucky and defending champion North Texas. The Bulldogs became one of only 10 Division I teams in the country to record back-to-back seasons of 24+ wins.

A year earlier, the Bulldogs put together a 24-8 overall record while earning a Conference USA West Division title and a third-place finish in the National Invitation Tournament. LA Tech received an at-large berth to play in the NIT for the first time since 2015 and became just the second team in program history to make the Final Four. The Bulldogs upset Ole Miss in the first round, defeated Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals and won a 76-74 thriller over No. 1 overall seed Colorado State in the Final Four consolation game.

The 'Dogs had the highest-rated defense in C-USA, ranking 39th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency in 2020-21.  The team also ranked No. 1 in the league and top 30 in the country for field goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense.

The 2019-20 team recorded a 22-8 overall mark during the regular season, but the team did not have a chance at postseason play with the Conference USA and NCAA/NIT Tournaments being canceled due to the public health threat of COVID-19. The 2018-19 squad had eight of its 20 victories come against teams who also produced 20-win seasons, the most in program history.

LA Tech had a 17-16 record in 2017-18 and in Conroy’s first two seasons, the Bulldogs posted back-to-back 23-10 records. In 2016-17, the Bulldogs finished second in Conference USA despite being picked seventh in the preseason poll and being the second youngest team in the league. In his first season, LA Tech defeated eight teams that advanced to the 2016 postseason, including the program’s first victory over a Big Ten school in 30 years with a win over Ohio State.

Seven LA Tech players earned postseason honors, including one C-USA Player of the Year honoree, during Conroy’s tenure.

Previously, Conroy spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach at UW Milwaukee under Rob Jeter, helping the Panthers to four 20-win seasons, two Horizon League regular season titles, two tournament titles and four postseason appearances including NCAA Tournament berths in 2006 and 2014. The Panthers also enjoyed back-to-back postseason appearances in 2011 and 2012 in the NIT and CollegeInsider.com Tournament, respectively.

Arguably the most memorable season at Milwaukee for Conroy came in his first season with the team in 2005-06. The Panthers posted a 22-9 overall record, won the Horizon League regular season and conference title, had a school-record three players named all-league, earned a best-ever 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament and collected an upset victory over Oklahoma in the first round. During his UWM stint, Conroy helped develop 12 All-Horizon league players.

Conroy began his coaching career at Milwaukee in 2000 as an administrative assistant for Bo Ryan. He moved with Ryan to Wisconsin, where he served as the video coordinator for two years (2001-03) when the Badgers claimed back-to-back Big Ten Conference regular season titles and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2003.

Following his stint in Madison, Conroy took over head coaching and athletics director duties at his prep alma mater, Davenport Assumption High School, for the 2003-04 school year before returning to Wisconsin for the 2004-05 campaign. He coordinated the day-to-day operational aspects of the Badger program, including travel and budgetary matters, as UW made a run to the Elite Eight.

Conroy had a successful playing career at St. Ambrose (Iowa) University. A two-time all-conference performer and team captain, he led St. Ambrose to three appearances in the NAIA Tournament. As a junior, Conroy led St. Ambrose to a 20-win season his junior season and 26 victories as a senior while earning honorable mention All-America honors.

A native of Naperville, Ill., Conroy was an all-state football and basketball player at Davenport Assumption High School. His brother, Ed, was an assistant coach at Tulsa for the 2000-01 season and is the current head coach at The Citadel.

Conroy and his wife, Nikki, have five children: Cal, Macklin, Keeva, Bradoch and Banion.
