DALLAS - Brett McDade went the length of the court in the final 0:07 and hit a three-foot jumper with no time remaining to give the Hurricane a 72-71 victory over SMU in front of 3,024 fans at Moody Coliseum.

Tulsa improved to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in Conference USA action, while the Mustangs dropped to 6-10 and 0-3 in league play.

SMU's Derrick Roberts put the Mustangs ahead by one point at 71-70 by connecting on two free throws. McDade beat the Mustangs with his late-game heroics as the Hurricane snapped a two-game losing streak. It was another close encounter for Tulsa, as the previous two games went into overtime.

Glenn Andrews scored a career- and game-high 24 points off the bench as he connected on 7-of-13 from the field, including six three-pointers. It was the second straight game that the freshman scored 20 or more points. Calvin Walls added 12 points and Ben Uzoh 11 for the Hurricane.

"It's such a fine line between winning and losing," said Tulsa's Doug Wojcik. "Brett McDade made a great play at the end. Give SMU credit, they made their free throws. Roberts made his two free throws there late, and fortunately, we were able to do what you want to do late in the game by not letting the defense set up. We raced it up, got a screen in transition and Brett made it. It was an exciting night for us and a great win, but you have to give SMU a lot of credit. They may have played the game of the year for them so far this season."

Tulsa led the entire first half, building a 10-point lead at 24-14 with 8:43 left before intermission. The Hurricane took its lead to 11 points with 2:32 left in the first half, before SMU cut it to five points, 38-33, with a 6-0 run before halftime.

SMU began the second half by scoring the first five points to tie the score at 38. Tulsa scored the next eight points on a jumper by Uzoh and two three-pointers from Andrews putting the Hurricane ahead 46-38 with 15:07 remaining in the contest.

The Mustangs then went on a 6-0 run before Andrews knocked down his third straight trey to put Tulsa ahead again by five points, 49-44, but SMU chipped away, taking its first lead at 55-53 on a Killen jumper with 10:56 remaining. Killen scored 12 of SMU's 14 points as the home team took the lead and built a 60-55 lead with 9:01 left in the contest.

Tulsa's Ray Reese hit a three-pointer at the 8:49 mark to put the Hurricane within two points, while McDade's layup knotted the score at 60-60 two minutes later. A pair of three-pointers, one by Uzoh and one by Andrews put Tulsa ahead by four points with 5:03 left to play at 66-62. The Mustangs tied the score for the fifth time at 66-66 on two free throws by Roberts.

Jerome Jordan scored his first points of the game on a dunk to put Tulsa ahead by two points, 68-66, at the two-minute mark. Killen gave SMU a 69-68 lead on a three-pointer with 1:02 left on the clock. Jordan scored another huge two points for the Hurricane on a tip-in at the 0:28 mark putting Tulsa ahead 70-69.

With :07 left in the game SMU's Roberts was fouled by Walls and knocked in his two free throws for what appeared to be an SMU victory. But, the :07 left on the clock was just enough time for McDade to perform his heroics going the distance and getting an open look at the basket for the game-winner.

Both teams shot better than 50-perent from the field, including from three-point range. Tulsa ended the game hitting 56-percent both from the field and three-point range, and knocked down 82-percent of its free throws.

The Hurricane returns home for a Wednesday night game against undefeated Memphis, as the nation's No.2-ranked Tigers, most likely, will take over the nation's number-one ranking as North Carolina, ranked No.1 this week, lost on Saturday.

Tulsa has faced the No. 1-ranked team 10 times before, but the first time in Tulsa since December 1993 when the Hurricane took Arkansas to the wire, losing 93-91 in overtime, at the Tulsa Convention Center. Memphis will be the first No.1 ranked team to visit the Reynolds Center in the 10-year history of the arena.

Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm and will be nationally televised on CSTV. Tickets are still available by calling 918-631-GoTU (4688).
