HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Jordan Clarkson and Justin Hurtt combined for 31 points, but the Tulsa basketball team could not overcome an early deficit and fell, 79-61, at Marshall Wednesday evening at the Cam Henderson Center.
Clarkson scored 16 points and Hurtt scored 15 points for TU. The Golden Hurricane falls to 15-12 overall and 8-5 in C-USA play, while Marshall improves to 19-9 overall and 7-6 in league play.
Tim Peete made all three of his field goals and scored seven points, and Steven Idlet added eight points. TU shot 41 percent from the field and 15 percent from three-point range. Marshall shot 49 percent from the field and out-rebounded Tulsa, 42-26, including 15-6 on the offensive boards.
Tulsa closed the deficit to 16 points at, 57-41, with 12:15 left in the game, but was not able to get any closer. Marshall had extended its, 42-28, halftime lead to 22 points with 18:04 remaining.
Marshall stormed out to a, 9-0, lead in the first four-and-a-half minutes of the game. Idlet ended the TU drought with a basket with 15:20 left in the half. Clarkson then scored the next five Hurricane points to make the score, 20-7, Marshall with 11:56 in the half.
The Herd's lead grew to 18 points at, 35-17, with 5:13 left in the half. The Thundering Herd led at halftime, 42-28.
The Golden Hurricane returns home to play host to Tulane Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
