Knoxville, Tenn. -
The Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Tennessee on Sunday evening at the Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. TU fell to 5-1 on the season, while UT moved to 3-2 overall.
"I thought we played really well and played hard," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We stuck to our game plan, but unfortunately they got a free kick and it deflected off the wall and went in. It was a bit unfortunate, but this was one of our better games of the season and we are getting better each game. Roman Edwards and Claire Maris did a great job of shutting down their two best players, but it was a great team effort. I am proud of the team."
The Volunteers' goal came at the 31:41 mark off a free kick taken by Kiah Allen outside the box.
Lauren King, Madison Smith and Rachel Thun each had two shots, while Claire Maris had one attempt. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up four saves.
Tennessee had an 11-7 lead in shots, including a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 12th against Tennessee-Martin. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
