11/12/2016 2:59:00 PM | Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa Volleyball team fell in three sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-18) to UCF on Saturday afternoon at the Reynolds Center. The Hurricane (18-10, 7-9 The American) wound up with a split in their weekend matches heading into the final two weeks of conference play.

Emily Thorson recorded double-digit kills for the second consecutive match with a team-leading 10 kills on a season-high 33 attempts. Rebecca Reeve and Emily Bohannon both added seven kills apiece for a Tulsa team that hit .121 on the afternoon to USF's .311.

TU committed eight errors in the opening set as UCF (21-8, 11-5 The American) pulled away at the midway point, extending their lead from one to six and outscoring the Hurricane 8-1 over the span to go ahead 16-8 on their way to a 25-14 win.

Tulsa used an early 4-0 run to go ahead 4-2 in the second set, holding off UCF four times with the set tied. The Hurricane took a three-point advantage three times in the middle stages, first on a Rachel Moore ace before kills from Thorson and Trinity Alualu stretched the lead back to three once again. UCF grabbed their first lead of the set at 16-15 and remained ahead for the rest of the set.

UCF used a 4-0 run of their own in the third to take control early as they built an 8-4 advantage before eventually stretching it to five at 17-12. Tulsa pulled within two at 18-16 via Bohannon and Thorson kills before Thorson's 10th of the day brought the Hurricane back within striking distance. UCF would go on to close out the set on a 5-0 run to take the match.

Brooke Berryhill led Tulsa with 18 of their 59 digs on the afternoon while Reeve tallied double-digit digs for the third straight match.

The Hurricane will remain at the Reynolds Center as they wrap up American Athletic Conference home play beginning on Wednesday against SMU at 6 p.m. before taking on Memphis on Senior Night Friday at 7 p.m.
