TULSA, Okla. – The 29th-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team is set to travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the first round of the NCAA Tennis Championships, where they will take on the 32nd-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, May 13, at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

"We have one of the tougher draws out there, but we have played most of these teams this year," Tulsa Head Women's Tennis Coach Dean Orford said. "We have a tough opponent in Arkansas, and if we are fortunate enough to get through that we will take on Oklahoma State. We have a cluster of some really good teams in this part of the country so we expected to see something like this."

The Golden Hurricane is 21-4 overall, while the Razorbacks are 16-13. Earlier this season, TU defeated Arkansas in a 6-1 decision in Fayetteville, Ark. The winner of the Tulsa-Arkansas match will advance to face the winner of No. 15 Oklahoma State and Albany in the second round.

The Golden Hurricane earned an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Tennis Championships after winning its second consecutive American Athletic Conference Tennis Championship. Tulsa defeated 56th-ranked USF, 4-0, in the American Athletic Conference finals.

The Hurricane registered a perfect 7-0 record against American Athletic Conference opponents, and has an 8-4 record against nationally ranked opponents. TU ended the 2016 campaign with an impressive overall 21-4 record. This marks the 10th-consecutive season that the Hurricane has reached the NCAA Tournament.

Senior Saana Saarteinen enters the NCAA Tennis Championships ranked 90th nationally in singles play, which is the highest singles rank achieved of any Tulsa player this season.
