Hurricane Fall to #5 OSU, 4-1

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team fell to No. 5-ranked Oklahoma State 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane moved to 6-2 on the season heading into a weekend that will see TU host two opponents on their home court.

Oklahoma State (6-0 overall) took the doubles point and a 1-0 lead to start play heading into the singles competition.

Marcelina Cichon dropped her first singles match in her last 12 attempts as OSU stretched their lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win from Lena Ruppert.

Martha Matoula extended the match with Tulsa's lone singles win on the day as she defeated #106 Sofia Blanco in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to bring the score to 3-1. Matoula gained the momentum early in her match, holding serve in the first game on game point before taking the next three to stretch her lead to 3-0 in the first. The sophomore built a 3-1 lead in the second set on her way to improving to 15-4 on the season.

Rongrong Leenabanchong looked to extend her match against #68 Katarina Adamovic after dropping the first set 6-2, responded by taking a 3-0 lead in the second set before play was called with Leenabanchong leading 5-3 in the second.

The Hurricane will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 11 when they host Sam Houston State at 12 p.m. in the Case Tennis Center.
