TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (12-5, 4-1) defeated USF (13-5, 2-3), 3-1, in the squad's first road American Athletic Conference victory of 2018 on Sunday.

Senior Emily Thorson and freshman Elyse Savadove stole the show in the first set, as Tulsa handled USF convincingly, 25-18. Savadove boasted four kills on a .800 hitting percentage, while Thorson added three-straight service aces for the Golden Hurricane in a 4-0 run in the set.

The second frame unfolded in a back-and-forth manner, with TU taking the set, 25-22. The Tulsa offense held strong, putting down 15 kills, while Rachel Moore bolstered the defense with four digs in the frame.

In the third set, Tulsa had to work from behind for the majority of the frame, down by as much as seven at one point. The Golden Hurricane squad showed resolve late in the stanza, but USF rallied to nab the third set, 25-21.

TU founds its rhythm in the fourth and final set, clinching the set and match, 25-16. Savadove, Thorson and Savadove both recorded four kills in the final frame, while DS/L Taylor Horsfall boasted eight digs to clinch the match.

In the victory, Tulsa recorded a season-high 13 service aces. The 13 aces marks the most in a match since a win over Charleston Southern University on Sept. 1, 2007, in which TU posted 14 aces in the 3-0 sweep.

Individually, Horsfall's 15 digs on the afternoon moved her up to No. 4 in program history in digs with 1,409, surpassing Malorey Grove, who finished her career with 1,408.

Thorson finished the match with a career-high six service aces, while Savadove recorded a career-high in kills with 14. As a team, Tulsa wrapped up the day with 50 kills on an efficient .264 hitting percentage, to go along with 58 digs and six blocks.

Head coach Ryan Wills' bunch returns home next weekend, where the team boasts a lofty 7-0 record in Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tulsa is scheduled to host Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 12, and ECU on Sunday, Oct. 14.
