Tulsa Sweeps Temple to Close Out Final Regular-Season Weekend

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Tulsa volleyball squad (19-10, 11-6) swept the Temple Owls (7-22, 4-13) in its final regular-season Sunday match of the 2018 season.
The straight-set victory marks the 10th sweep of the season under head coach Ryan Wills.
In the first frame, junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall exemplified her versatility, tallying a career-high five kills in the first set. The Golden Hurricane managed to top the Owls in the stanza convincingly, 25-17.
The second set played out in streaks, as Tulsa edged out Temple in the frame, 25-23. Senior OH Emily Thorson stepped up offensively, knocking down a team-high five kills in the stanza on a .333 clip.
In the third and final set, the Golden Hurricane came out hot, going on a 4-0 run to start the frame. Thorson accumulated another four kills in the set, to go along with Horsfall's six digs on the back line for TU.
As Thorson continues to climb the rankings as one of Tulsa's most feared hitters, she ties Hannah Stout for No. 5 TU all-time in kills (1,116) with a team-high nine kills in today's sweep.
Horsfall would finish the match with a career-high five kills, while pacing the Hurricane with 20 digs in the match. As a whole, Tulsa posted 41 kills on a .257 hitting percentage, eight blocks and 53 digs in the sweep.
With the convincing win, the Golden Hurricane is on track to finish with the best record in Wills' five-year tenure.
With Wills' bunch's 2018 home slate finished, it heads to Kansas for a Havoc in the Heartland midweek matchup at Wichita State to round out the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
