Tulsa Volleyball Notches Three All-Conference Selections

11/27/2018 8:26:00 AM | Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. — Three Tulsa volleyball student-athletes earned all-conference laurels for the 2018 season, the conference announced on Tuesday. Senior OH Emily Thorson garnered a first-team honor, while junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall and senior OH/MB Rachel Moore earned second-team recognitions.

The three selections marks the first time the Golden Hurricane has had more than two honorees since 2013, and the first time under head coach Ryan Wills' five-year tenure.

Thorson has already solidified herself as one of the best hitters in program history, currently sitting at No. 5 TU all-time with 1,138 kills. The first team all-conference nod is the second for Thorson in her decorated career with the Golden Hurricane.

In her time in Tulsa, Thorson became the eighth TU athlete to hit the 1,000-kill mark in a career, along with the third-most total attacks in program history at 3,938. This season, she paces Tulsa with 359 kills and a lofty 3.29 kills per set mark.

Horsfall has become a household name among the nation's best on the back line, as she was named the American Libero of the Year and first team all-conference in 2017. She set a single season TU and conference record with 755 digs in 2017, along with finishing sixth in the nation with 6.04 digs per set.

This season, Horsfall has moved up to No. 3 TU all-time with 1,663 digs, tallying 619 so far in 2018. She is currently slotted at No. 10 in the NCAA, racking up a 5.63 digs per set average.

For Moore, the second-team honor is her first in her four years at TU. The senior from Oklahoma City has been consistently productive offensively for the Golden Hurricane, accumulating 296 kills this season. Moore has also been effective at the service line, tallying 22 service aces this season, good enough for second-best on the Tulsa squad.

As a team, Wills' bunch finished the regular season at fourth overall in the AAC, managing a 19-11 overall record and a 11-7 mark in conference play. The team finished ahead of preseason projections, as Tulsa was selected to finish sixth in the preseason coaches' poll.

Up next, the Golden Hurricane enters postseason play for the first time since 2013, squaring off at North Texas on Thursday, Nov. 29 in Denton, Texas. TU owns a 15-7 record all-time against the Mean Green, while defeating North Texas in a five-set match inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Sept. 26 this season.
