SURPRISE, Ariz. – University of Tulsa men's tennis senior Majed Kilani dropped his round of 16 singles consolation match to No. 57 Duarte Vale (Florida), 7-6(3), 3-6, 7-5, at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Friday.
Despite the loss, Kilani has already shown his veteran prowess this fall, holding an 8-6 singles record and being named the American Athletic Conference Men's Player of the Month for October for his efforts.
Kilani showed off his impressive court coverage in the first set, but Vale managed to edge out the senior, 7-6(3). In the second frame, the Tunisia native kept his errors to a minimum and won two of three break points to secure the stanza, 6-3.
The third and final set played out similarly to the first, with both sides holding serve until 5-all. Vale managed to hold serve one final time and break Kilani to narrowly defeat the senior, 7-5.
Head coach Vince Westbrook's squad will take on two futures tournaments this fall before kicking off the 2019 season on Jan. 11 at home against Bryant and Texas Tech.
