
Preisner and Birmingham Win on Final Day of Outdoor Championships

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Aaliyah Birmingham ran a personal-best time in the 400-meters and Ben Preisner won the 5,000 meters on Sunday as the Tulsa track & field teams finished competition at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Gettler Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. The Golden Hurricane men finished in fifth place, while the women finished in eighth place.
The Hurricane men came in fifth with a total of 78 points, while the Tulsa women finished in eighth with a total of 49 points. The Houston men and women swept the outdoor track titles . The Cougar men totaled 172 points, while Memphis placed second with 147.50 and Wichita State finished in third with 130 points.The Houston women won with a combined total of 113 points, followed by ECU with 91 and Cincinnati with 90.50.
Birmingham's personal-best time of 53.96 earned her the 400-meter title. Ca'Purnika Galbert posted a personal-best time with a mark of 55.01, as she placed sixth. Breonna Hall came in eighth, but notched a personal-best time of 55.85. The trio added 14 points to the team total.
Preisner completed the 5,000-meter sweep as he finished first with a time of 14:45.05 for the win to go along with his victory in 5,000-meters at the indoor championships. With the win today, he became the fourth straight Tulsa runner to win the 5,000-meters at the outdoor championships. Adam Roderique posted a time of 14:50.52 and came in third place. Austin Del Rosso came in seventh with a time of 15:04.29. The three combined for 17 points.
Jenny O'Bryan added three points to the team total, as she placed sixth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 17:30.46. Ashley Barnes ran a 17:30.96, placed seventh and added three points.
Kiarra Reed posted a personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 59.30 on her way to a third-place finish. Reed gave the Hurricane six more team points.
Galbert, Birmingham, Quin Washington, and Candalyn Lyons came in fifth place in the 4x100-meter relay with a combined time of 45.66. The relay team added four points to the team total.
The team of Reed, Lyons, Galbert, and Birmingham collected a combined time of 3:41.69 in the 4x400-meter relay and added six points.
Bailey Stewart recorded a season-best mark with a time of 47.25 in the 400-meters. Stewart added five points to the men's team total.
Grey Howard added eight points with his second-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.25. Robert Tully chipped in with three points with a time of 1:53.16 and placed sixth.
Mark Middleton collected four points with a time of 4:04.77 in the 1,500-meters and placed fifth.
Henry Visser picked up three points with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.06.
Visser, Stewart, Joseph Nemec, and Zachary Adee came in seventh in the 4x100-meter relay with a combined time of 41.05. The group added two points to the team total.
Visser, Howard, Adee, and Stewart combined for a time of 3:13.18 in the 4x400-meter relay. The group came in fourth and added five team points.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, California, on Thursday, May 24.
