Kilani Wraps Up Day One at Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. – University of Tulsa men's tennis senior Majed Kilani fell to Fermin Calvo Barcelo of Kennesaw State in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0 on the first day of the Oracle ITA Masters on Thursday.
To kick off the morning, Kilani partnered with junior Fatima Bizhukova (Wichita State) to take down the team of Aziz Kijametovic (ODU) and Maria Kononova (NT), 6-4.
In the duo's second match of the day, Kilani/Bizhukova took on the No. 1 seeded Ito (Texas)/Rioux (OSU) tandem, in which Kilani/Bizhukova dropped the match, 6-1.
In singles, Kilani started the match off strong, taking the two first games of the match to take a 2-0 lead. After a back-and-forth first set, Kilani dropped the first frame to Calvo Barcelo, 7-5.
In set two, Kilani struggled to gain control of the stanza, as Calvo Barcelo clinched the second set and the match, 6-0.
Kilani will square off with sophomore Andrew Ton of Navy tomorrow in the single elimination consolation draw with time TBA.
