Tulsa Slated to Compete in ITA Kick-Off Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 23 University of Tulsa women's tennis squad (5-1) continues a strong start to the 2019 season this weekend, scheduled to compete in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane will play in the Evanston, Illinois, regional on the campus of Northwestern University. Also featured in the regional will be No. 17 Miami (3-0), No. 22 UCF (2-1) and host and No. 20 ranked Northwestern (1-0).
Tulsa will face off with Miami on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT in the first round of the regional. Depending on the outcome, TU will play either UCF or Northwestern on Sunday in the championship match at 2 p.m. CT or the consolation match at 10 a.m. CT.
The winners of each regional (15 in total) advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships.
At last year's ITA Kick-Off event, the Golden Hurricane took part in the Ann Arbor, Michigan, regional and fell to host and No. 10 Michigan, 4-1, in the championship match after sweeping Brown in the first round.
Miami has two players in the singles top-125, highlighted by No. 7 ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba, while Northwestern has just one player at No. 100. In doubles, Miami, Northwestern and Tulsa (Okalova/Ploner – No. 4) all have one doubles pair inside the ITA top-60.
So far this season, head coach Dean Orford's squad boasts a 5-1 overall record. TU posted a perfect 3-0 mark in the Hurricane Invite, while the only setback came against a talented No. 9-ranked Oklahoma State team.
