Tulsa Volleyball Ends Homestand Falling to UCF in Straight Sets

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa volleyball team fell to UCF [17-25, 13-25, 23-25] in straight sets on Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Sunday's contest was the final match of a four-game homestand for the Golden Hurricane.
For the Golden Hurricane (12-9, 5-3 The American), the loss is TU's first in the American Athletic Conference to an eastern division team. The Knights (14-6, 7-1) improved their winning streak to five matches. UCF trails Tulsa in the all-time series 12-8, but is now 5-1 in the last six contests.
The two teams combined for 14 ties and nine lead changes, including 10 ties and six lead changes in the final set.
The Golden Hurricane nearly erased a five-point deficit in the third set. Trailing 21-17, Tulsa scored on four of five possessions to come within a point at 22-21. Mariah Brim connected on a pass from Mariah Pardo. Maggie Hembree and Lauren Isenberg then combined for a block. Hembree capped off the run with a pair of kills.
UCF would regain a three-point advantage. But a Hannah Overmyer kill, followed by Callie Cook and Maddie Rhoder's combined block, cut the deficit back to one at 24-23. UCF would then call a timeout and capture match point on the next play.
Pardo moved into a tie for fifth-place in career assists, recording a match-high 17 assists. She has totaled 2,569 assists at TU, tying volleyball alum Mendy Marsh. Pardo also recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 digs.
Rhoder finished with a team-high 10 kills on a .304 hitting percentage. Cook and Overmyer added nine kills, respectively.
Taylor Horsfall chipped in a game-high 31 digs. Roosa Rautio added 15 assists.
The Golden Hurricane begin a four-game road trip on Friday, Oct. 25, at Temple. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
