ARLINGTON, Texas –– Reggie Jones tossed in 19 points for Tulsa, but the host UTA Mavericks led from start to finish for a 73-59 victory Saturday night in front of 3,722 fans at College Park Center Arena.

Jones connected on 5-of-12 field goals, 3-of-5 three-pointers and 6-of-10 free throws for his game high 19 points. He knocked through 14 first-half points, including 12 consecutively. Darien Jackson and Jeriah Horne added 12 and 11 points for the Hurricane.

As a team, Tulsa (1-0) shot just 30.6-percent from the field, while UTA (2-0) knocked through 40-percent of its shots. For the second straight game, Tulsa had the edge in paint scoring, this time by a margin of 22-to-12.

UTA jumped out to a 12-2 lead by the first media timeout, converting 4-of-6 field goals while Tulsa was just 1-of-7. After the timeout, Tulsa scored the next 10 points all by Reggie Jones to tie the score at 12. UTA scored the next 9 for a 21-12 lead with just over 8 minutes left in the first half.

Jones 2 free throws at the 6:11 mark snapped a 6:18 scoring drought for the Hurricane. In the first 13 minutes, Jones was 3-of-5 while the remainder of the Tulsa team converted just 1-of-12 from the field.

Freshman Josh Earley gave Tulsa some good minutes off the bench in the fist half with 2 points and 4 rebounds in nearly 9 minutes. At halftime, UTA held the 10-point lead and had a 27-21 rebounding edge

The Mavericks came out in the second half and made 7 of its first 8 shots, including 4-4 from 3-point range to extend its 10-point halftime lead to 19 points at 51-33 at the 14:46 mark.

UTA led by as many as 22 points twice in the final 12 minutes, but Tulsa whittled it down to the final 14-point margin.

Tulsa returns home Tuesday to face cross-town rival Oral Roberts for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Donald W. Reynolds Center.
