TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa volleyball team will face Santa Clara in the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) this evening at 9 p.m. CT at Walter Pyramid, on the campus of Long Beach State University.
The Golden Hurricane (16-15, 8-8 The American) defeated UC Davis in four sets [20-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-20] on Wednesday night to advance to the second round. The win marks Tulsa's first postseason victory since defeating Oklahoma in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
This will be the first meeting all-time between the Golden Hurricane and Broncos (21-11, 10-8 WCC). Santa Clara secured its spot in the second round by way of a five-set win over the Beach [25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 16-14].
The winner of Thursday's contest will move onto the third round of the NIVC held Dec. 9-12. The winner will face Boise State, Northwestern State, Weber State, or Wyoming in the quarterfinals. The host venue and match time have yet to be determined.
Senior libero Taylor Horsfall will look to shatter the program record for career digs against the Broncos. Horsfall enters the match with 2,405 career digs. With 33 digs, the Houston native will pass TU alum Jessica Adams (2,437) on the all-time list.
